How do you move from a tangle of goals, priorities, and competing signals to a clear set of actions? This lecture shows a hands-on way to manage strategy in design – to see the whole picture and decide what to do about it. Rhizomatic Mapping is a non-linear method for laying out everything in play – values, drivers, stakeholders, ideas – on a single map, then tracing the connections to see what matters most and what follows from it.

I’ll demonstrate this in two specific ways: first, using a map to identify an organisation’s core values, and then to work through a SWOT analysis rhizomatically. Mapped this way, a SWOT reveals connections across that the usual quadrants hide, and turns them into concrete, prioritized actions. A worked case runs through the whole talk.
